Mid-May in Northern Europe can have unpredictable weather.
The Seabourn Ovation is the opposite as predictable as the rising sun.
This was my third Seabourn cruise and I sailed with many passengers who far
exceeded my time with Seabourn. Many were on this 7-night segment as one of
many back-to-backs. It may be difficult to ascertain all of the segments that can be
seamlessly connected but if time does allow do consider adding a connecting
cruise or two as it is seamless and with the wear & tear of air and the associated
costs it may be more of a bargain than you thought. The reason we return to
Seabourn is the calm attention to detail. Names and preferences are quickly
remembered by gracious crew.

The best way to describe the ship is understated elegance with expansive public
areas, never crowded.

Cabins are contemporary, spacious and comfortable. Residential size furniture
with a table and chairs that actually work for a full room service meal. My favorite
feature is the floor length wall to wall curtains that separate the sleeping area
from the sitting/dining area. I am a night owl and my partner, less so, I can work
until I am tired and he can snooze uninterrupted.

If passengers have mobility concerns do opt for cabins mid-aft rather than forward
as most activities are reached by the aft elevator. I was in a forward cabin, do note
that motion, anchor chain noise and bow thruster noise was noticeable not
terrible just noticeable. Cabins forward on deck 9&10 are breezy but convenient
to the pool and the excellent bar on deck 10.
I found 3 ice cream stations, there may be more I was only on a week…..one in the
buffet, one in Seabourn Square and one at the bar on deck 9 all three offered
several flavor selections and each I had was excellent, by far my favorite
indulgence on the ship. Seabourn Square is a culinary delight to explore as soon as
you board, I won’t spoil the surprise, just go.
Deck 11 forward does have a lovely observation lounge and bar with soft music at
night and excellent afternoon tea on some sea days. The Solis Bar was our favorite
bar, lovely light music, relaxing setting and unique cocktails such as the “Brigitte
Bardot”.

Entertainment was well selected for the demographic which was mainly of
retirement age on my sailing. Production shows had talented entertainers, great
costumes, excellent lighting & sound, unique backdrops. The musical entertainers
were amazing and versatile. The main show lounge on 6 has comfortable seating
but does have obstructed sight lines. The sound system is excellent but do avoid
sitting in front of speakers. I made that mistake and received warnings from my
Apple Watch of dangerous noise levels.
Service in the dining venues was excellent. Do try the sushi restaurant small,
bright, excellent cuisine and delightful place to experience appetizers before
dining in the main restaurant, their cucumber-based cocktail served in the evening
is wonderful. The room service menu was different and more extensive than most.
Many cruise lines are now country club casual. Not the case with Seabourn. On a
7- night cruise there is one formal night. Men in tux or dark suit in the main dining
room. Interestingly I overheard that reservations could be requested on formal
nights. It was busy but I do think many dined elsewhere rather than deal with
formal attire.
There is only one reservation only restaurant, Solis, which is elegant, quiet &
refined with excellent service and cuisine.
Who should consider Seabourn?
Inquisitive travelers who appreciate consistent well executed service with grace
and friendliness You should be able to entertain yourself on sea days. If you are
adventurous the staff is well prepared to offer maps and suggestions for times not
on tours, do ask.
The Seabourn mindset is to have you leave completely satisfied. I don’t know
because I asked, I know because I watched and experienced the attention to
detail.
